Heerenveen and Heracles Almelo head into the winter break on the back of a 1-1 draw in Friesland.

On the first day of the season, Heerenveen began the campaign with a 4-0 win at Heracles. The visitors were looking for revenge in the Abe Lenstra Stadion, while Heerenveen were wanting a victory to cement their spot in the top seven.

Heerenveen were the more dangerous side in the first half but Janis Blaswich saved from Mitchell van Bergen and Chidera Ejuke, while the goalkeeper also kept out a Hicham Faik spot-kick.

In the 54th minute, Heracles took the lead when Cyriel Dessers burst through on goal before slotting past Warner Hahn. The lead only lasted two minutes before Joey Veerman equalised from close range for Heerenveen.

Before the end, Heerenveen handed a debut to 18-year-old striker Rein Smit but he could not help his side find a winner before the end.
