The 30-year-old has signed a three year deal with an option to extend for a further year, after an undisclosed fee was agreed between Heerenveen and Viborg.
Dalgaard had a hugely prolific spell with Viborg, as the striker netted 48 times in 68 matches over three seasons. Last season Viborg were relegated to the 2nd division, but Dalgaard still ended as top scorer in the league after netting 18 times.
The former Randers, and Skive forward joins Heerenveen with the pressure of replacing Alfred Finnbogason on his shoulders. Finnbogason left for Real Sociedad this summer, after becoming the all time top scorer for Heerenveen in the Eredivisie, with 53 goals in 65 league games.
Dalgaard will wear the number nine shirt at the Abe Lenstra stadion, and could make his debut on Saturday, when Heerenveen meet Levante in a friendly.
