Heerenveen remain on course for the end of season play-offs after a 2-0 victory at VVV Venlo.

The visitors made the brighter start to the match and had the ball in the net early on, however, Marco Rojas saw his strike ruled out for a foul.

Arber Zeneli, Rojas and Denzell Dumfries all went close for Heerenveen, while at the other end Lennart Thy squandered a good chance. Just before the half-hour mark, Pelle van Amersfoort fouled Thy in the box leading to a penalty. However, Clint Leemans, who missed a spot-kick against Sparta last week, saw his penalty saved by Martin Hansen.

Moreno Rutten hit the bar for VVV early in the second half before Heerenveen eventually took the lead twenty minutes before the end as Reza Ghoochannejhad headed in. Nemanja Mihajlovic then sealed the victory ten minutes later with a strike that just beat Lars Unnerstall.

Heerenveen rise to 7th and in the final play-off spot, while VVV are 12th.
