Heerenveen’s recent run has been horrible, while Feyenoord also went into the game on the back of defeats to Ajax and AZ Alkmaar.
The Rotterdammers were hoping to repeat the 3-0 win they achieved over Heerenveen at the end of December. However, the hosts had other ideas and they got revenge.
In the 28th minute, Rodney Kongolo played Joey Veerman in on goal and the midfielder calmly fired past Nick Marsman. Two minutes later, a corner was flicked into the path of Pawel Bochniewicz, who tapped in a second for the hosts.
Feyenoord had no answer before the break and things got worse in the 50th minute as Mitchell van Bergen was left in space to control Henk Veerman’s ball before finding the net for Heerenveen’s third.
Dick Advocaat turned to Bryan Linssen and Lucas Pratto but Feyenoord could not find a way back into the game and they finished the game with only one shot on target.
Heerenveen are ninth with the win while Feyenoord are fifth and almost certainly out of the title race.
