The derby of the north between Heerenveen and Groningen ended in a 1-1 draw at the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

Heerenveen began the derby strongly and eventually took the lead on the half-hour mark when Michel Vlap fired past Sergio Padt on the turn following a throw-in.
Groningen barely threatened in the first half but ten minutes after the break they were level through Tom van Weert, who nodded in Mimoun Mahi’s cross to make it 1-1.
Pelle van Amersfoort, Jordy Bruijn and Denzell Dumfries all missed decent chances for the hosts before the end as Groningen held on for a point.
Groningen rise to 13th with the point while Heerenveen are 8th.
