Despite dominating from start to finish, Heerenveen were held to a 1-1 draw by Fortuna Sittard in Friesland.

The home side took control from the off but Mitchell van Bergen and Chidera Ejuke couldn’t take their chances and against the run of play, Fortuna Sittard broke the deadlock.

A swift counter attack ended with full-back Felix Passlack slotting a cross from Vitalie Damascan past Warner Hahn.

Heerenveen were awarded a penalty in the 35th minute when Clint Essers brought down Jordy Bruijn. Jens Odgaard made no mistake from the spot to register his first goal for the club.

After the break, Heerenveen poured forward looking for the lead but Odgaard missed their biggest chance, while new faces Joey Veerman and Anders Dreyer couldn’t help the hosts earn three points.

Despite eight minutes of added time for an injury to Ejuke and VAR stoppages, Fortuna Sittard held on to take a point. Heerenveen now sit 10th while Fortuna Sittard are 17th.
