A late Ralf Seuntjens equaliser earned VVV Venlo a 2-2 draw at Heerenveen.

Heerenveen hadn’t won at home since September and they got off to another poor start in Friesland with Lennart Thy firing VVV Venlo ahead after only ten minutes.

The hosts responded well and were level eight minutes later as Denzel Dumfries headed in a Stijn Schaars free-kick. Before the break, Heerenveen took control and they should have been ahead but Lars Unnerstall denied Henk Veerman.

Four minutes into the second half, Veerman did give Heerenveen the lead with a fine finish after being played in by Michael Vlap.

Morten Thorsby and Yuki Kobayashi then missed good chances to get Heerenveen’s third and eventually VVV made them pay through Ralf Seuntjens. The forward turned in a Vito van Crooij shot to earn VVV a point in the 86th minute.

The draw means Heerenveen remain 8th while VVV are 12th.
