The Dutch striker’s contract with Hannover 96 expires in six months and with playing time limited with the Bundesliga side, a January exit is expected.

Voetbal Primeur is reporting that Heerenveen are hoping to sign the former AZ and RKC Waalkwijk star, but face competition from Leeds United, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Japanese side Yokohama City.

Heerenveen are looking for a new striker to replace Reza Ghoochannejhad, whose contract expires in the summer and has recently lost his place in the starting line-up to Henk Veerman.

Benschop has been with Hannover 96 since 2015, but injuries have hampered him over the last year. He has only made five appearances in the Bundesliga this season, scoring once.
