The 48-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and after talks, Heerenveen have decided not to offer Streppel a new deal.

Heerenveen general manager Luuc Eisenga told the club’s website, “In recent weeks there has been extensive discussion between all parties. After mutual consultation we decided together not to extend the expiring contract of Jurgen Streppel. We are very grateful to Jurgen for his efforts at Heerenveen. All parties will do everything possible until the end of the competition to close the season together and achieve the intended goal, reaching the playoffs for European football.”

Streppel spent five years with Willem II before taking over at Heerenveen in 2016. He guided them to ninth last season which was good enough for a place in the European play-offs where they lost to Utrecht. This season they currently lie 11th.
