Pelle van Amersfoort took advantage of a defensive error to fire Heerenveen to a 1-0 win over NAC Breda.

Heerenveen started the game on top and were unlucky not to be ahead in the seventh minute when Morten Thorsby’s header came back off the post. Michel Vlap, Stijn Schaars and Denzel Dumfries all went close in a goalless first half, while at the other end Rai Vloet was dangerous on the counter.

Ten minutes into the second half, Heerenveen took the lead when Pelle van Amersfoort ran onto Mounir El Allouchi poor backpass before firing into the net.

Heerenveen goalkeeper Warner Hahn denied NAC the equaliser with fine saves to keep out Thomas Enevoldsen’s effort and a Pablo Mari header.

Heerenveen rise to ninth with the win while NAC remain 16th.
