Pelle van Amersfoort scored a 90th minute winner as Heerenveen defeated Excelsior 1-0.

Heerenveen still have ambitions to reach the European playoffs and they were the stronger side in the Abe Lenstra Stadion from the start. However, Daniel Høegh’s effort which came back off the bar was the closest they came to an opener in the first-half.

In the second half, Sam Lammers missed a great chance for the hosts before Warner Hahn denied Jurgen Mattheij at the other end.

The game was heading for a goalless draw but in the last minute, Pelle van Amersfoort slotted a cross into the bottom corner to seal victory for the hosts.

Heerenveen are now ninth in the table while Excelsior remain in danger and only one point above the drop zone.
