AZ Alkmaar recorded their third victory in a row as goals from Jeremy Helmer and Guus Til led them to a 2-1 win over NAC Breda.

With Alireza Jahanbakhsh out through injury, John van den Brom handed Jeremy Helmer his first start on the left wing and it was the 20-year-old who broke the deadlock. After a tepid first half, which saw NAC go closest, Helmer gave AZ the lead on 55 minutes with a low strike into the bottom corner from outside the box.

Three minutes later, Joris van Overeem’s cross was powerfully met by Guus Til who headed in a second for the hosts.

With seven minutes left, Ron Vlaar conceded a penalty for a foul on Thierry Ambrose. The French striker saw his spot kick saved by Marco Bizot, but Giovanni Korte netted on the rebound to set up an exciting end to the game.

AZ held on for the three points which moves them to sixth. NAC are 15th.
