After a disappointing Euro qualifying campaign so far, Netherlands found their first away win in the group after goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Luciano Narsingh saw off Latvia 2-0 in Riga.
Netherlands are now only three points behind the 2nd automatic qualifying place with four games to go and coach Guus Hiddink, who surely would have faced the sack if the Oranje failed to beat Latvia, could only praise his players.
Hiddink told NOS, “I compliment the boys. For this match, but also for the last few weeks. During training sessions they all did very well. That’s not easy after a long season.
“After the unexpected succes at the World Cup last year, some changes had to be made and other players joined. Often you see a setback, it’s the same with other countries. Now we are heading in the right direction.”
