The defender leaves PEC Zwolle on a free transfer signing a two-year contract Gaziantepsor after lengthy contract negotiations at Zwolle stalled. The left back received two contract extension proposals from Zwolle during the season but an agreement could not be reached between the two parties.
In April Zwolle’s Technical Director, Gerard Nijkamp, announced that the club would no longer wait for Van Hintum, withdrawing the contract offer and began searching for a replacement. According to voetbalzone.nl, a number of clubs had shown interest in van Hintum with FC Groningen, FC Utrecht and Vitesse all interested at some point since his departure was announced by Zwolle.
However, van Hintum decided he wanted a new challenge aboard and choose to test himself in the Turkish Super Lig. Gaziantepspor finished a disappointing fourteenth last season and will hope that van Hintum can help propel them up the league table by shoring up a defence that conceded fifty goals.
Van Hintum won the KNVB Beker and Johan Cruyff shield during his five years with PEC Zwolle and also played for FC Dordrecht after making his debut with FC Oss.
