The 22-year-old centre-back made the move from AZ Alkmaar to Lazio last year and has become a first-team regular for the Serie A side, making 39 appearances and scoring once.
In an interview with Panna, Hoedt has revealed that he regularly speaks with Lazio teammate and Dutch international Stefan de Vrij about a Netherlands invitation.
He said, “Stefan is a full Orange International and I try to be.
“I learn from him, he learns from me. So we try to make each other better.
“It’s important that I show in Italy that I deserve a call from the coach. Hard and strong defense, then the rest will come,”
Hoedt has three caps for the Dutch U21’s but has yet to receive a full call-up from Danny Blind. The coach will name his squad soon for the November ties with Belgium and Luxembourg.
Good to see another strong CB in the making
We are working at a nice slow pace from the net out. We need strikers and CM’s to start developing. On this site there is enough talk about players going outside the Eredivisie and yes they shouldn’t before (recommended age was) 24, but how old should they be before they join one of the big three? Where is Adam Maher now? But back to the age before you move onto a bigger club…we have more backs, but what are Diks and Letschert doing this year? I know the league doesn’t exactly have the money to keep these players around, but boys…allow yourself to grow into the player you know you can be…and in the same breath, keepers stay way too long. They are almost in their prime before they leave, then make a really dumb choice that only works out for few! Stekelenburg could have been one of the greatest and now look at Cillessen, he has a chance to fight, but what was he brought there for? If he does earn his place, and I hope he fights tooth and nail, then it will be a success, but ter Stegen is not a pushover either! Oranje doesn’t need better players and better development, they need a career coach!!!
Hope he continues his progression. Could be a very good option for the future.
