Peter Bosz is still searching for his first league win in the Amsterdam Arena after Ajax slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Willem II.

will ajaThe Tilburg side had never won at the Amsterdam Arena in the Eredivisie, and went into the tie still looking for their first victory of the season. That victory seemed far off when Davy Klaassen headed Ajax in front after only 24 seconds from Anwar El Ghazi’s cross.

However, Ajax failed to build on their lead and within the space of two minutes Willem II completely turned the game on its head. Firstly on 28 minutes Erik Falkenburg fired a strike into the top corner to equalise, before Fran Sol was allowed time in the box to spin and strike Willem II into an unlikely lead.

In the second half Anwar El Ghazi went close from a free kick, while Donny van de Beek tested Kostas Lamprou with a fierce strike, but Ajax struggled to take control of the tie and Willem II held on for a famous victory rather comfortably.

The defeat is Ajax’s second slip up of the season, and already puts them five points behind PSV Eindhoven. Willem II climb to ninth thanks to their first win of the season.
