The shock 2-1 loss to Heerenveen midweek had left Feyenoord’s title chances in tatters and on the verge of history, with the club never losing five league games in a row in their history.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst looked to solve his defensive woes by restoring Eric Botteghin to the starting line up in place of Sven van Beek. However once again the home side’s back four was shaky and Aaron Meijers was inches away from opening the scoring from Ruben Schaken’s cross.
That warning was not heeded by the home side and before the break Mike Havenaar played the ball across goal for Kevin Jansen to finish past Kenneth Vermeer. Just before the hour mark Danny Bakker released Gianni Zuiverloon, and the former Feyenoord defender finished well past Vermeer to make it 2-0.
Feyenoord pushed for a way back into the tie but Simon Gustafson fired over the bar from the edge of the box, while Martin Hansen pushed away Anass Achahbar’s goalbound header.
The defeat leaves Feyenoord 14 points off the summit in third, while ADO Den Haag sit 12th.
