hunt usa nedThe 32-year-old was reportedly surprised that he was overlooked for the friendlies with France and England, with Luuk de Jong and Vincent Janssen chosen ahead of him by coach Danny Blind. The striker was supposed to come on as a late substitute for Janssen in the win over England, but showed no appetite for a cameo according to VI, with Jordy Clasie coming on instead.

Huntelaar has long played second fiddle for Robin van Persie in the national team, but with the Fenerbahce striker now seemingly out of the picture, he thought he would get his chance in the Oranje. However, it appears that Blind has De Jong, Janssen, and possibly Bas Dost ahead of the Schalke star in his pecking order. Huntelaar will now consider if he should retire from the national team and focus solely on his club career.

Huntelaar has 76 caps for the Dutch national team, and has scored an incredible 42 goals, making him the second all time leading goalscorer for the Oranje.
