The 34-year-old left Schalke on a free in the summer to return to the Netherlands and rejoin Ajax.

Huntelaar said, ”The Eredivisie is a different league than the Bundesliga. The Bundesliga is more about endurance and the Eredivisie is more technical.

”Counterattack is apparent in the Bundesliga but I must say that you notice that more teams are playing that way in the Eredivisie too.

”You also notice that the smaller teams in the Eredivisie are more focused on getting results and often play defensive in my opinion.

”The Eredivisie is not a Mickey Mouse league. The level is not as bad as everybody makes it out to be. There are many talented players here.

”Ajax also reached the final of the Europa League last season and that does not happen just by chance”.
