PSV headed to Arnhem looking to continue their good recent form after two comfortable 3-0 wins.
However, the first half was a dull affair with neither side really troubling the opening goal. The big talking points were injuries to Vitesse star Bryan Linssen and PSV midfielder Jorrit Hendrix.
Five minutes into the second half, an error from Daniel Schwaab gifted Tim Matavz a simple finish to give Vitesse the lead.
The goal woke PSV up and in the 59th minute, Denzel Dumfries was brought down in the box. Sam Lammers equalised from the penalty spot.
Four minutes later, Cody Gakpo cut inside from the left before firing into the far corner to make it 2-1 for PSV.
Vitesse then pushed for the equaliser, but Oussama Tannane put two free-kicks over the bar, while Jay-Roy Grot put a free-kick inside the box wide.
With the victory, PSV Eindhoven keep up the pace with Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar above them. Vitesse are 7th.
