A knee injury sustained by Kenny Tete in training has ruled him out of the upcoming games against Greece and Sweden. Watford’s Daryl Janmaat has been called up to replace him.

Daryl Janmaat’s time with the national team has not been smooth sailing since his solid performances at the World Cup in 2014. It was his ill-thought back pass that led to Czech Republic’s injury time winner in the Netherland’s first Euro qualifier, setting the stage for what would become a disastrous campaign. Since then, Janmaat has seen himself in and out of the selections, and has just signed for Watford, seeking top league football after his former club, Newcastle United, was relegated last season.
Janmaat, and the Netherlands need a fresh start. With one friendly this week before World Cup qualifiers begin next Tuesday against Sweden, two solid performances by both Janmaat and the team can reignite their confidence to succeed in a group with the likes of Euro finalists France; and, an admittedly Ibrahimovic-less Sweden.
Kenny Tete, Ajax’s first choice right back is a ripe talent for only being 20 years old. He sustained a calf injury, the extent of which is not yet known, and had to bow out of the upcoming games. He has 4 appearances for his country to date.
This isn’t an anti-Janmaat thing-a player I like. But this should have been Karsdorp. Karsdorp is the best right back in all of Dutch football atm, better than Tete even. But once again Blind is blind to talent outside of AJAX.
