Ron Jans has stepped down as the head coach of MLS side FC Cincinnati.

Last Friday, the club announced that Jans had stepped aside temporarily due to an investigation into a racist remark the coach had reportedly used.

The 61-year-old had said the ‘N word’ while singing along to a rap song in the dressing room in front of players.

Jans has now decided to step down from his position ahead of the investigation result. Chairman Jeff Berding told the club website, “Ron offered his resignation and we agreed that this was the best thing to do for everyone involved in the club.”

General manager Gerard Nijkamp will now be on the lookout for a new coach.

Jurgen Locadia recently joined the club on loan while Siem de Jong is set to sign later this week.
