After a great first half of the campaign, AZ sit comfortably in third place but remain only three points behind Ajax in second.
Van den Brom told NOS, “I would not sign for 3rd place in the Eredivisie. We want to close the gap on Ajax.
”Of course we are happy with 3rd place at the moment but more importantly we are happy with the way we are playing.
”You must also not forget that we have a very young group of players. It is fantastic to see how the players are holding their own and coming through the youth team process.”
Van den Brom also confirmed the club are working on a transfer this month, ”We are keeping a close eye on the transfer market and we are working on bringing in PEC Zwolle defender Philippe Sandler.”
On his own future, Van den Brom added, ”As regards to my future here at AZ Alkmaar. If I could I would sign a contract for 10 years.”
