PSV Eindhoven is on the brink of exiting Europe after Tottenham came from behind to beat the Eredivisie leaders 2-1 thanks to a double from Harry Kane.

With only one point from the opening three games, PSV headed to London looking for an unlikely victory to get their Champions League campaign kickstarted. After only 62 seconds they took the lead with Luuk de Jong rising to head in a corner.

After the early opener, PSV sat deep and invited pressure. Tottenham got several chances but Angelino cleared a backheel from Dele Alli off the line before Jeroen Zoet made three crucial stops, firstly from Lucas Moura and then Christian Eriksen and Ali.

PSV contained Tottenham into the second half and just before the hour mark, they got two good chances to make it 2-0. Firstly the ball dropped to Bergwijn outside the box and he saw a strike deflected just over. Then Gaston Pereiro met the resulting corner but goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga made a flying save.

As the second half wore on, Tottenham continued to push and eventually, the equaliser came in the 78th minute when Harry Kane scuffed a shot into the bottom corner.

PSV had a great chance to take the lead again minutes later when Donyell Malen raced through on goal but the striker’s shot was parried away by Gazzaniga. Mark van Bommel’s side were made to rue the miss as one minute from time, Kane’s header deflected off of Nick Viergever and then Trent Sainsbury before finding the bottom corner.

PSV couldn’t find an equaliser in six minutes of added on time and they now sit bottom of their group on one point. With clashes against Inter Milan and Barcelona to come, the chances of PSV remaining in Europe past the winter seem slim.
