Rick Karsdorp has confirmed he turned down several offers in favour of returning to Feyenoord.

Karsdorp departed Feyenoord for AS Roma two years ago but has struggled with injuries since.

This summer, AS Roma were open to the 24-year-old departing and Karsdorp received plenty of offers. According to Voetbal International, Southampton were close to his signing, while Fulham along with clubs from Germany, and Turkey were also interested.

However, the right-back chose to return to Feyenoord on a season-long loan deal.

Speaking to VI, Karsdorp said, “There was a lot of interest. Premier League, indeed, but also from the Bundesliga, Turkey, Greece, enough options. I just looked at what would be best for me and that has nothing to do with the Netherlands or the atmosphere, that is just a nice bonus.

“If you have played little football for two years, you have to make sure that you can do it again.

“Do I have to go to a club where I can fully compete? At Feyenoord there is also competition, but normally I play here every week. Well, that was the deciding factor in the decision. Suppose I am leaving for England and they throw me in front of the lions in that Premier League, then I might break down again in three training sessions. You do not know. Feyenoord feels familiar in everything. I just wanted to go to Feyenoord. “
