English Championship side Birmingham City have completed the signing of Groningen midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld.

Groningen announced on Sunday that they had agreed a deal with Birmingham City for Kieftenbeld, who has now underwent his medical successfully and put pen to paper on a three-year-contract. The fee for the transfer is reportedly €250,000.
The tenacious midfielder had spells with FC Twente and Go Ahead Eagles before joining Groningen in 2010. Over the past five seasons, the 25-year-old has become a pivotal player for Edwin van de Looi’s side, making 147 Eredivisie appearances, and becoming the clubs captain.
Kieftenbeld becomes the second key player to leave the Euroborg in a week after Tjaronn Chery completed his move to QPR.
