Guus Hiddink named a 28 man squad for the crucial European Championships qualifier against Turkey on the 28th of March and friendly with Spain three days later, but Klaassen’s name was not included despite being Ajax’s star man this season.
Hiddink will name his final squad in the next week and Klaassen is still hopeful of adding to his single cap for the national team, despite being unsure on why he was left out in the first place.
Klaassen told De Telegraaf, “I do not know why I’m not in the preliminary selection. ”
“I think the people in Zeist are still under the impression that I am injured, but I no longer suffer from my stomach injury and in one week i have played three ninety minute games.”
The 22-year-old has scored six goals and added nine assists in 25 Eredivisie appearances this season.
