De Boer left the Amsterdam Arena in the summer with Ajax eventually appointing Peter Bosz as his replacement.
However, Patrick Kluivert has told NOS that he held talks with the club over replacing De Boer, but Ajax thought the former striker wasn’t ready. Kluivert was Ajax U19 coach at the time but then decided to become technical director of PSG.
Kluivert said, “I also had a conversation with Ajax to become head coach. But they found it too early. That was Ajax’s choice.
“I would have personally found it nice if the opportunity had been awarded to me.
“Of course I was disappointed, you go for the highest there is to get. This was a great opportunity for me. It was not to be. It is the choice of the club and I must respect it”
