Robin van Persie has pulled out of the Netherlands squad after suffering a knee issue in the defeat to France on Thursday.

The veteran played half an hour of the defeat in Paris and complained of pain in his knee to the NOS camera’s after the game.

Van Persie has now decided to pull out of the squad ahead of the tie with Bulgaria on Sunday. It is not yet known whether Dick Advocaat will call a replacement.

Netherlands will also be without Kevin Strootman for the must win game in Amsterdam after his red card.
