The KNVB have confirmed that they have reached the second chapter of talks over a possible BeNeLiga.

The idea of a Netherlands and Belgian joint super league has been floated for years. That idea became a real possibility this summer when the five top clubs from Belgium ( AA Gent, Club Brugge, RC Genk, Anderlecht and Standard Li├Ęge) met the top six from Netherlands (Ajax, AZ, FC Utrecht, Feyenoord, PSV and Vitesse) for talks.

The clubs discussed the possibility of a joint league in their discussions on how to close the gap to the top five leagues in the world.

The consultancy company Deloitte was hired to look into the possibility of a BeNeLiga and according the KNVB their findings have been positive. The first results show a joint league could “potentially significantly increases the value of the league.”

The second phase of the investigation has now started which would look at possible format for a league and the impact it would have on both the Dutch and Belgian football competitions.
