The KNVB Cup first round continued on Wednesday with Feyenoord, Heerenveen and Utrecht among the teams going through. Below is a round-up of the action.

Feyenoord ADO Den Haag

Two late goals saw Feyenoord progress to the second round at the expense of ADO Den Haag.

The hosts, who were looking to bounce back from their defeat to PSV at the weekend, started poorly with ADO Den Haag creating the best chances in the first half. Elson Hooi was denied by Brad Jones, while Bjorn Johnsen fired a great chance over the bar. For Feyenoord, the best chance fell to Michiel Kramer but he could only head straight at Robert Zwinkels.

On 73 minutes, the hosts broke the deadlock as substitute Bilal Basacikoglu found Steven Berghuis in the box and the winger fired past Zwinkels. Ten minutes later, Danny Gorter handled on the line, earning himself a red card and Feyenoord a penalty. Kramer netted from the spot to send the visitors into the second round.

Ajax amateurs 0-6 Utrecht

Utrecht eased into the second round with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Ajax amateurs.

Cyriel Dessers netted a double in the opening 23 minutes before Yassin Ayoub, Lukas Görtler, Matthew Willock and Zakaria Labyad made it 6-0 before half time. Willock, on loan from Manchester United, scored the pick of the goals with a lovely lob.

In the second half, Utrecht took their foot off the gas and didn’t add to the scoreline.

Excelsior 1-2 Heerenveen

In a repeat of the Eredivisie game at the weekend, Heerenveen came out on top 2-1 over Excelsior in Rotterdam.

Arber Zeneli, who netted on Saturday, opened the scoring on nine minutes after good work by Henk Veerman. The Kosovo international then doubled the lead on 15 minutes.

In the second half, Zakaria El Azzouzi saw a penalty saved by Van der Steen, but they got another chance from the spot soon after when Denzel Dumfries handballed in the box. Mike van Duinen took the second penalty and made no mistake to make it 2-1.

Heerenveen held on for the victory despite plenty of pressure from the hosts late on.

Achilles 29 4-3 NAC Breda

After Vitesse, NAC Breda are the second Eredivisie side to be knocked out by a lower league opponent. Second division side Achilles 29 proved too strong in a 4-3 victory.

The hosts, who were relegated from the Eerste Divisie, responded well to falling behind to a Rai Vloet strike and equalised through Imran Oulad Omar. However, Karol Mets restored NAC’s lead on 25 minutes.

On the hour mark, Achilles 29 were awarded a penalty and Boy van den Beek leveled before Niels Wouters and Shuremy Felomina made it 4-2 to the hosts. Vloet then saw red for NAC before Thomas Enevoldsen pulled back a consolation in injury time.

ONS Sneek 1-3 Twente

After their 4-0 win over Utrecht at the weekend, Twente eased into the second round of the cup after a 3-1 win at ONS Sneek.

Haris Vuckic opened the scoring on 15 minutes before Adnane Tighadouini added a second before the break. Michael Liendl made it 3-0 on 57 minutes before Curty Gonzales scored a lovely consolation for the hosts.

Other results: Capelle 0-5 Roda JC, Apeldoorn 2-4 Willem II, ASV De Dijk 2-1 HHC Hardenberg, VVSB 3-1 Telstar, Staphorst 2-3 Koninklijke HFC, Katwijk 4-0 Ter Leede, Lisse 2-2 HSV Hoek (Lisse progressed on penalties)
