Feyenoord will face AZ Alkmaar in the KNVB Cup final after a 3-0 win over Willem II in De Kuip.

With their league campaign in tatters, Feyenoord are hoping the KNVB Cup can bring some silverware and positivity to their season. Giovannin van Bronckhorst reinstated Robin van Persie, Sven van Beek and Ridgeciano Haps to the starting eleven after all three missed the defeat to PSV at the weekend.

The hosts started on top and took the lead on 21 minutes when Steven Berghuis met Haps cross and made no mistake with his finish from close range.

Jean-Paul Boetius and Van Persie went close to a second before the break, while at the other end Willem II struggled to create any chances to trouble Brad Jones. Fran Sol had a shot blocked in a rare opportunity for the visitors.

Before the hour mark, Boetius set Haps free on the wing and the left-back’s cross was calmly prodded into the net by Van Persie to make it 2-0. It was the 300th goal in the veteran’s career.

The goal killed off any chance of Willem II making a comeback and just before the end, Tonny Vilhena added a third to seal a comfortable night for Feyenoord.

Feyenoord will now meet AZ Alkmaar in their own De Kuip stadion on the 22nd of April for the KNVB Cup and a spot in the Europa league.
