The final two KNVB Cup first round ties took place on Thursday night with Utrecht and Fortuna Sittard progressing.

Excelsior’31 1-4 Utrecht

Utrecht eased into the second round with a comfortable victory over amateur side Excelsior’31.

The Eredivisie side had the lead after only nine minutes when Leon Guwara netted Urby Emmanuelson’s cross at the second attempt. In the 41st minute, Adam Maher doubled the lead from the penalty spot.

Patrick Joosten hit the post for Utrecht before Issah Abass did eventually add a third goal in the 72nd minute with a sliding finish from close range.

Hielke Penterman pulled one back for the hosts but in the final minute, Simon Makienok made it 4-1. It was a special moment for the striker who has struggled with injuries over the past year and he broke down in tears after the full-time whistle.

Fortuna Sittard 3-0 ADO Den Haag

Fortuna Sittard eased to a 3-0 victory over ADO Den Haag in Limburg.

The all Eredivisie tie was a tight affair in the first half before Mark Diemers broke the deadlock in the 59th minute from the penalty spot.

Two minutes later, Vitalie Damascan doubled the hosts lead before Agim Zeka sealed Fortuna’s place in the third round.
