The second round of the KNVB Cup continued on Wednesday with 13 ties. Below is a round up of all the action.

heiting ajaHolders Groningen came from behind to beat FC Twente 2-1 and book their place in the next round. Right back Hidde ter Avest had given FC Twente a deserved lead in the first half, but goals from Bryan Linssen and Hedwiges Maduro put Groningen through.

Ajax were far from their best but they comfortably saw off Eredivisie strugglers De Graafschap 2-0 in Amsterdam. Viktor Fischer gave the home side the lead just before half time and substitute John Heitinga sealed the victory five minutes before the end.

AZ Alkmaar put their poor start to the season behind them to hammer Eerste Divisie side VVV Venlo 6-1 at the AFAS Stadion. The away side were reduced to ten men on eight minutes when Kristian Haagen was shown a straight red, and Jop van der Linden scored the resulting penalty. Muamer Tankovic made it 2-0 before half time before Vito van Crooy pulled one back for VVV just after the hour mark. However any chance of a comeback was ended when AZ netted four goals in the space of 12 minutes, with Tankovic, Robert Muhren and a Markus Henriksen double making it 6-1.

Vitesse seemed to be heading into the next round when Denis Oliynk put them ahead against Heracles, but in a crazy turn of events the Arnhem side were reduced to eight men in the second half with Ibarra, Guram Kashia and Marvelous Nakamba all being sent off. Heracles missed a 90th minute penalty before Paul Gladon did equalise in stoppage time. With three extra men Heracles ran away with the game in extra time, winning 4-1 thanks to goals from Gladon, Wout Weghorst and a penalty from Oussama Tannane.

Goals from Tom van Weert and Daryl van Mieghem handed Excelsior a simple 2-0 win over amateur side Barendrecht.

Roda JC ran out 3-0 winners over De Treffers with Hicham Faik, Tomi Juric and Tom van Hyfte scoring for the Eredivisie side.

Go Ahead Eagles needed penalties to see off HSC’21 after a 2-2 draw. Go Ahead were reduced to ten men in the first half before Ter Hogt gave the amateur side the lead. Chris David equalised for the ten men but Grondman restored HSC’21’s lead just after the hour. However the Eerste Divisie side forced extra time through Teijsse and then progressed 10-9 on penalties.

Topklasse side Koninklijke shocked FC Eindhoven in Haarlem as they came back from 1-0 down to beat the Eerste Divisie side 3-2. Milan Massop gave Eindhoven the lead, but Gertjan Tamerus equalised for the home side before goals from Rachid El Yaakoubi and Mike van den Ban put Kpninklijke 3-1 up. Wimilio Vink pulled one back for FC Eindhoven, but they could not force the game into extra time and they are out of the cup.

In the battle of the Eerste Divisie sides, Achilles’29 beat Fortuna Sittard 3-1 after extra time. Hielke Penterman gave Achilles 29 an early lead before Lars Hutten forced the game into extra time. Goals from Bogers and Surmeli sealed the win in extra time for Achilles.

FC Oss have also gone out of the cup to an amateur side after a 4-1 hiding at HBS in the Hague.
