Vitesse Arnhem have booked their place in the KNVB Cup semi-finals after a 2-0 win over Feyenoord.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was without Karim El Ahmadi (African cup of nations) and the suspended Tonny Vilhena at the GelreDome and also decided to rest Dirk Kuyt in favour for Simon Gustafson. The makeshift Feyenoord midfield struggled to take control in Arnhem, but the cup holders still created the best chance in the first half with Steven Berghuis denied by a finger tip save by Eloy Room.

Just after the break, Vitesse took the lead when a corner was headed past Brad Jones by Guram Kashia. Renato Tapia then had a chance to equalise for Feyenoord but the midfielder was denied by Room.

Straight from that missed chance, Vitesse went down the other end and after Ricky van Wolfswinkel had an effort saved, Adnane Tighadouini followed up on the rebound to make it 2-0 for the hosts.

There was to be no comeback for Feyenoord and it could have been worse for the holders before the end but Lewis Baker’s free-kick came back off the post. Vitesse now reach the semi-finals of the cup for the first time since 2001, joining Sparta Rotterdam, Cambuur and AZ Alkmaar in the last four.
