AZ Alkmaar duo Myron Boadu and Calvin Stengs have made a big impact in the Eredivisie so far, along with PSV’s Cody Gakpo and Donyell Malen.
In conversation with Voetbal International, Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that all four players have impressed him. He attended AZ’s victory over RKC and PSV’s win against ADO Den Haag at the weekend and saw all four in action.
Koeman said on why he watched RKC v AZ, “We are going around the fields. Also because the larger competitions have not all started yet that offered the chance to get a number of talented guys on the radar.
“At AZ we have seen Calvin Stengs and Myron Boadu, both young, but with a lot of options. At PSV, this applies to players such as Cody Gakpo and of course Donyell Malen. It is nice that we also get a little more to choose from in an offensive way, but that is mainly due to the development of those players themselves. “
Netherlands are in action next month with trips to both Germany and Estonia in the European Championship qualifiers.
Stengs could be a great option for the future – the Dutch are still lacking depth in wing positions. While the ECQ campaign is now in a position where the team can’t afford to drop any points (except against Germany), Koeman should still consider calling him and playing against Estonia away to see what he can bring.
Boadu def should be looking at. I love the lad huge talent joy to watch. Stengs & Malen are good too. But I think Boadu will be very special
