Koeman said, ”I think the fans of Feyenoord make the club special and you feel that if you play or manage the club. When I was manager there the club had a lot of debts but we still received an awful lot of support.
”I think the emotions involved with Feyenoord can be extreme and you see now that because they are so close to their first title since 1999 which is such a long time that you must not underestimate the emotions that play a part in such a situation.
”It will be great for everyone involved with Feyenoord if they win the title.”
Koeman was also full of praise for Feyenoord coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst, ”Giovanni Van Bronckhorst has character even to be big enough in the way he accepted assistance from Dick Advocaat at Feyenoord in the past when things were not going so well and to have an experienced man along side you who you can listen to and who can give you advice.
”Van Bronckhorst has grown as a manager in terms of the decisions he has taken such as not starting Dirk Kuyt. Those types of decisions are on his own merit ”.
