In an extensive interview with Marca, Koeman was asked if Barcelona contacted him in January to replace Ernesto Valverde, “Barça called and I said ‘no’ because of my commitment to the national team,”
Asked if it would have been a bad time to coach Barcelona, Koeman said, “No, I don’t think it was a bad time. I had my obligations to the Orange. Barcelona can always win important prizes, they have very good players and the possibilities to attract the best footballers. If I had been out of work, it was a different story. Everyone loves Barça. The situation of the club does not change that.
“I had my best time as a footballer in Barcelona. I hope one day I can be the coach of Barça.”
Koeman has recently confirmed that his clause to leave Netherlands for Barcelona will still be active after the European Championships in 2021.
