Barcelona technical director Eric Abidal has admitted that Ronald Koeman is a candidate to become the club’s head coach in the future.

The Netherlands boss has made no secret of his ambition to manage his former club at some point but recently confirmed he would not consider leaving his post with Oranje until after the European Championships.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Abidal confirmed that Koeman is a candidate to become Barcelona boss in the future, “Koeman meets the criteria for a Barcelona coach

“The list of potential trainers for Barcelona is very short. As far as Koeman is concerned, that is information that is generally known. But it’s not up to him, it’s a club decision. ”

Abidal, however, added that there are no plans to get rid of current head coach Ernesto Valverde, who has come under pressure from the club’s fans, “Valverde is the one who says if this will be his last season. We must always be prepared.”
