Ronald Koeman discussed his departure from the Netherlands at his Barcelona press conference.

Koeman was unveiled as the new Barcelona head coach on Wednesday and held his first press conference.

He told the media about his departure from Oranje, “It hurts that we have not been able to play a final tournament but a lot has happened in the world since March, everything has become very uncertain. Who tells me that there will be a European Championship with an audience next year? I now get the chance for the third time and now I take it.”

Koeman was in contact with his Netherlands players before his departure. ‘They all thanked me. We are really on the right track with the Dutch national team, we have changed the entire image of the national team. We did that together. I don’t believe there is a player who doesn’t allow me to do this and think the team is strong enough to continue on this foot.”

Dwight Lodeweges takes charge of the national team for their Nations League ties with Poland and Italy in September.
