Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman may have selected a predictable squad for the upcoming Euro qualifiers but he admits the options at his disposal are increasing.

Koeman has used a fixed group since he took charge of the national team and there were no surprises in his squad for the upcoming Euro qualifiers with Northern Ireland and Belarus.

Koeman did drop a midfielder for an extra attacker though, and he said at his press conference on Monday that he is happy with the development of his forwards, “I think we have a selection that is equivalent to many countries. And in particular the better countries. That is also due to the fact that we have players up front, who develop and have such creativity and speed in their game that makes you more dangerous. That has been minimal for a long time. We have also selected more attackers. We now have more choices. “

On why he makes so little changes to his squads, Koeman responded, “You have little time to train with the national teams. Then it is nice that the group is largely the same. You first choose solidity that gives you confidence and later you also look more at opponents. You have to put the finishing touches on the opponents. With the Dutch national team you can select what you need. That is easier than at clubs. ”

Koeman was then asked about a number of talents including Mohamed Ihattaren, Sergino Dest, and Teun Koopmeiners.

He firstly paid his condolences to Ihattaren, who lost his father on Sunday, and stated that he will be given time to decide between Netherlands and Morocco, “First of all condolences to the family and Mo. At the last contact he said he wanted to take the time to be with his father. It is not the time to start working on him now. ”

On Koopmeiners, Koeman added, “He is one of the players mentioned. That is obvious. He takes the lead at AZ and is also the leader.”

On Dest, Koeman said, “Me and Nico-Jan Hoogma have had a conversation with him. We have outlined a picture of how we see his future with the Dutch national team. That he is a candidate for the right back position. I don’t promise anyone, but I have indicated in my way that I see a future for him towards the Dutch national team. He apparently needs time to make a decision. “
