After three years of being back-up to Marc Andre Ter-Stegen, Cillessen has decided to leave the Nou Camp this summer. Benfica have been heavily linked with the keeper, but no deal has been confirmed yet.
Speaking to Marca, Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman spoke about Cillessen’s situation.
He said, “Every football player wants to play matches and Cillessen is too good to be a back-up, he has to work as the first choice somewhere.
“His only problem is that Barcelona currently has another very good goalie. Cillessen has waited for an opportunity this entire season, but Marc-André Ter Stegen is so constant. That makes his situation difficult. That is why I understand very well that he is thinking about his future and wants to play. “
