Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman wants Frenkie de Jong to produce more in the club’s attack.

De Jong gained praise in the Spanish media for his performance against Levante at the weekend. The midfielder was played in a more attacking role and provided the assist for the winning goal.

Speaking at his press conference on Tuesday, Koeman said he has been working with De Jong to improve his attacking game.

Koeman said, “He is a player who is the foundation. But he has more qualities to also mean more offensively. He is very fast with the ball at the foot and can find the spaces with passes. We’re working on this too, we want him to be more important with his intelligence in the last part of the field. There is a lot to be gained from breaking through the lines.”

De Jong has provided two assists and no goals in 16 appearances this season.
