Lionel Messi has made the decision to depart Barcelona this season with reports in Spain claiming his conversation with Ronald Koeman was the final straw for the Argentine.

After Barcelona’s humiliating exit to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, reports surfaced that Messi was ready to leave Barcelona this summer.

On Tuesday, that news was confirmed with Messi officially making it known that he wants a transfer. The Argentinian is reportedly looking to use a clause in his contract to leave on a free. However, Barcelona are holding out for his release clause of €700 million to be triggered.

Several outlets in Spain including SPORT are claiming that the final straw for Messi was his conversation with Ronald Koeman. The new Barca boss reportedly told the superstar that he would no longer receive “any privileges,” and had to comply with the teams wishes.

A legal battle between Messi and the club is now on the cards which is not the start that Koeman wanted to have as Barcelona head coach.

Manchester City and Inter Milan are already being installed as the favourites to sign Messi this summer.
