The Dutch stopper left Newcastle United in the summer to join Ajax on loan, with the Amsterdam side seeing Krul as the replacement for Jasper Cillessen, who joined Barcelona.

However, Krul took a while to recover from an injury and that allowed Andre Onana to cement his place as the new Ajax number one. Krul is now Ajax’s third choice goalkeeper behind Onana and Diederik Boer and has been told by the club that he is free to leave.

Krul, who was not in the Jong Ajax squad for their win against Almere City on Monday night, is now expected to join Premier League side Watford, who will look to loan the Dutch international until the end of the season.
