Dirk Kuyt and Eljero Elia netted late goals as Feyenoord eventually overcame Cambuur 3-1 in De Kuip.

fey kutFeyenoord finally broke their dreadful run in the Eredivisie with a victory at Utrecht last week, and followed that up by reaching the KNVB Cup final after beating AZ Alkmaar.

Confidence was back in Rotterdam and Feyenoord headed into the break against Cambuur on course for their third straight win, with Michiel Kramer teeing up Jens Toornstra to fire past Leonard Nienhuis on 36 minutes.

In the second half Toornstra fired against the crossbar as the home side went searching for a second, but against the run of play Cambuur equalised on 70 minutes as Kenneth Vermeer failed to deal with a corner and Martijn Barto nodded in.

Dirk Kuyt has regained his form in front of goal recently, netting in the last three games, and the striker against proved his value by heading Feyenoord back into the lead on 79 minutes after Toornstra’s fierce strike was spilled by Nienhuis.

Eljero Elia then sealed victory for Feyenoord, sliding the ball in as Cambuur’s defence hesitated to clear Bilal Basacikoglu’s cross.

Feyenoord stay third on goal difference, while Cambuur remain second bottom.
