The 36-year-old’s contract at Feyenoord expired this summer and despite being urged by director Martin van Geel to keep playing, Kuyt has decided to hang up his boots.
It brings an end to a fabulous 19-year career which saw Kuyt represent Utrecht, Feyenoord, Liverpool and Fenerbahce, while earning 104 caps for Netherlands.
Kuyt couldn’t have ended his career on the back of a better moment as he netted a hat-trick to down Heracles 3-1 to seal Feyenoord’s first Eredivisie title in 18-years.
Kuyt said on the official Feyenoord website, “All my dreams have come true.”
The forward will remain at Feyenoord in an off the pitch role.
