PSV Eindhoven will be without Sam Lammers for months after the striker had to undergo surgery.

The striker came off injured during PSV’s 2-0 loss to Ajax in the Johan Cruijff Schaal last weekend and the initial diagnosis wasn’t good.

PSV have now confirmed that Lammers was forced to undergo surgery on his knee and the 22-year-old will now be out for months.

Lammers told the PSV website, “The operation went well, but unfortunately I will be on the side in the coming months.

“I am very disappointed because I was ready to play with PSV for the prizes. I now stay in the hospital for a few days to recover from the procedure and then the focus is on rehab. I am sure that I will come out stronger. This is also part of the life of a top athlete, it is no different. ”

The injury is a blow to Lammers who was keen to impress after returning on loan from Heerenveen.
