Heracles Almelo have recorded their first win of the season after a 3-1 win over Willem II.

her willHeracles have started their season in Europe and the league with three draws but they were gifted the lead on 25 minutes after a huge error from goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou. Illias Bel Hassani’s free kick was well struck but Lamprou dived for it well behind his line and couldn’t prevent the ball from crossing into the net.

Bel Hassani and Brahim Darri both tested Lamprou with decent efforts after the opener and eventually Paul Gladon made it 2-0 just before the hour mark with a nice finish from Thomas Bruns cross. The striker then made it 3-0 on 64 minutes from Robin Gosen’s well placed pass before Erik Falkenburg pulled one back for the away side.

Before the end Gladon made Eredivisie history by missing two penalties in the space of a minute, but it didn’t prove crucial as Heracles comfortably saw out the rest of the game.

Heracles move onto three points, while Willem II go to the drawing board after their second defeat.
