Joan Laporta wouldn’t rule out “Painful sales” at Barcelona this summer as they look to better their financial situation.

In the Spanish press in recent weeks, Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong have both been put forward as players that Barcelona could look to sell this summer as they look to bring in fresh players and challenge for the title next season.

Speaking to Catalunya Radio, Barcelona president Joan Laporta admitted that Barcelona may have to make some painful sales this summer in order to challenge for the La Liga and Champions League next season.

He said, “I don’t know if there will be painful sales. Our priority is the economic situation of the club.”

De Jong is being heavily linked to Manchester United and Laporta would not rule out the Dutchman leaving, “Frenkie de Jong? There are Barcelona players who are always talked about in the market. We’re going to do what’s best for the club. Once the financial resources we want to activate have been tapped, there is no economic need to sell.”
